Caribbean stud poker rules

Caribbean Stud also known as Cyberstud in online casinos originated aboard cruise ships and in South Pacific clubs. It is a variation of Poker played on a table similar to a Blackjack table. It has a history of being the first casino table game to offer a progressive jackpot. The game is dealt from a single standard 52-card deck. The objective is to beat the dealers five card poker hand with your own five card hand.

There are only three player decisions to make in Caribbean Stud. The first is how much to bet. The second is deciding whether to Raise or Fold after seeing the dealers up card. And the third is whether to take the progressive jackpot side bet or not.

Playing the game

The game starts with each player making an ante bet, and if possible there may be a side bet for a progressive jackpot. After all bets have been placed the dealer will give each player five cards face down and five cards to himself, one of the dealers five cards will be face up called the "up card".

Then depending on the strength of the player five card hand and the dealers up card the player have to decide whether to raise or fold. A raise means to double the ante bet, no more, no less. If the player decides to fold the game is finished and the ante bet is lost.

After all the players have either folded or raised the dealer will expose all his face down cards. Net the dealer need to qualify, to do that the dealers hand needs to hold at least an Ace and a King or higher. If the dealers hand does not qualify the players ante bets will only pay even money and all raise bets push. But if the dealer does qualify he will start to compare his hand to each of the players. If the dealer has the higher hand the player will lose both bets. If the player has the higher hand the ante bet wins even money and the raise will win according to a payoff table located around the table. In case of a tie between the dealer and player (unlikely) both player bets push.
