Baccarat rules

The rules for Baccarat are very simple, it is said to be the oldest of all casino games played in modern casinos. Records suggest the game may have been played as far back as the fifteenth century in France where it is sometime known as Punto Banco. There are just three bets to make and the game is often played for very high stakes. In traditional casinos Baccarat tables are often kept separate from the rest of the casino games in a ‘Baccarat Pit'. The Baccarat table is easy to recognize. It is often quite large and can have seating for as many as twelve people.

Playing the game

The deal will rotate among the players, players can however decline to deal and pass it to the next player. It is customary for the dealer to bet on the banker because as long as the Banker’s bet win's he gets to keep dealing, but the dealer can make whatever bet he wishes.

The objective of the game is to predict which of the two hands (Banker or Player) that is about to be dealt will be closer to having a value of 9. After the bet is placed no decisions will be made making it easy to play.

Play begins with all the players making one of the three bets. The three bets available are: The Player’s hand, the Banker’s hand, or a Tie, after the bets are out the dealer gives each player and himself two cards.

Winning bets on the banker and players hand both pays even money, a winning tie bet pays 8 to 1. The hand that holds two or three cards totalling closest to nine wins. A 5% commission is taken when you bet on a winning Banker's hand.

A Tie at any point in the game ends the hand and pays off all Tie bets.

If either the player or the banker has a total of an 8 or a 9 they both stand and the one closer to 9 wins.

If neither player nor dealer has 8 or 9 after getting their two cards a third card may be dealt.

If the player's total is 5 or less then the player hits, otherwise the player stands.

If the player stands, then the banker hits on a total of 5 or less. If the player does hit then use the chart to the right to determine if the banker hits (H) or stands (S)

Card point values:
Ace = 1
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 = Face value in points
10, J, Q, K = 0
Example of how the hands total is calculated: If the two cards given to a player were an 8 and 9 this would total a score of 8+9=17, but since you can only have scores of 0-9 and cant bust this would count as 7 instead.
